The round-trip distance
Fuel for that distance at today price
Expected waiting time at borders
Fixed daily cost of truck and driver

If you know these five you know the margin before you say yes. Most lost money on a load was visible at the quoting stage.

Find the break-even rate

Work backwards from total cost per tonne. Any rate above it earns something. Any rate below it loses money on every tonne you carry.
